Always Know What I'm Working On
I'm in!
Here you can find pics of my completed works in acrylics, graphite, and watercolor. To see in progress pics of what I'm working on at any given time, follow me on Instagram or Twitter. You can also commission me to paint a custom portrait for you. See this page to find out how.
For me, art has always been about the joy of creating, bringing something into existence that wasn't there before. I love knowing I can get more beauty and charm into people's lives. Also, ever since I was a kid, I've loved setting challenges for myself and conquering them. Nothing lets me do all three things, creating, adding beauty, and conquering challenges, better than painting and drawing. I'm also fascinated by faces and figures, both human and animal, so I paint the subjects I do. I love to capture people's essence. My art's purpose is to capture a likeness or scene that may only last for a moment and keep it forever. I work mainly in acrylics and graphite but occasionally experiment with other mediums.

Tyler As A Puppy 11x14 2015 Acrylic On Canvas photo by Joe Millett used with permisson Tyler is a dog that belongs to a family friend. While on our way to a local coffee shop, my parents and I used to stop and give her treats. This photo was taken when Tyler was a puppy and her owner brought her over to visit us. She was at the bottom of our stairs at the time.
Cody The Dog 11x14 acrylic on Belgian Linen 2016 (sold) Cody is a dog that belongs to one of my neighbors. I took the photo for this painting while at a party at my neighbor's house. I had this painting in a show in 2016. After the show, Cody's owner bought the painting.
"Cat Behind A Fence" 11x14 graphite I used to walk regularly in the mornings in a park that's very close to my house. Separating the park from the city is a large gate. One day, I was walking by this gate and saw this cat starting back at me. I took a pic with my phone and that was what I used to make this drawing.

Lady In The Doorway 11x14 graphite Lady is my family's dog. At the time I took the photo that I drew this from, she was being very rambunctious, but she happened to stop in front of the door for a few seconds, just long enough for me to take her picture.

"Blue Puppy" 8x10 acrylic on Belgian Linen This is not a puppy I know, but when I saw the pic of him on Pixabay, I thought he was so cute, I had to paint him. I used the color scheme I did because I painted this for a demonstration on using cool analogous colors.
Alexander The Dog 8x10 watercolor on cold press paper 2019 Alexander belongs to some friends of my family. He was playing with his ball while we were having dinner and visiting.

'Hey Over There" 11x14 acrylic on Belgian Linen
"Orangutan Hanging Out" 11x14 acrylic on Belgian Linen This is another zoo painting. The orangutan here is Enda, a female who's been at the zoo for over twenty years, as long as I can remember at least. I imagine her being deep in thought here.
"InComing Swan" 8x10 acrylic on Belgian linen
"Polar Bear Dozing" 11x14 acrylic on Belgian Linen
"Awkward" 11x14 acrylic on Belgian Linen Another zoo painting. The title is because I imagine the blue and yellow parrot feeling very awkward in front of the two red parrots, who look like they're making out.
"Blue and Yellow Parrot' 9x12 colored pencil on watercolor paper
"Butterfly In A Bush" 11x14 acrylic on canvas This was also taken in the park. I noticed a butterfly flitting among the bushes. I got my phone out and immediately started taking pictures. For a while there, it looked like it might not work out. It seemed very time I pressed the shutter, the butterfly moved at that second, making it impossible for me to get the shot. But, as luck would have it, it happened to land on a leaf and stay still, just once, long enough for me to get the pic that became this painting.
"Blue Parrot" 9x12 acrylic on canvas
"Squirrel Among The Palm Branches" 8x10 acrylic on Belgian Linen This was also taken at the zoo, but it's not of a "zoo anima". I happened to see this squirrel on the ground just as I was leaving the zoo and was fortunate enough to be able to get a pic that I could use for a painting.
"Peacock" 11x14 acrylic on Belgian Linen
"House Sparrow" 8x10 acrylic on Belgian Linen ref photo by Lisa Clough
"In Coming Okapi" 11x14 acrylic on Belgian Linen I titled this painting the way I did for the same reason I titled In Coming Swan the way I did, and that's because the Okapi's are coming onto the canvas. Okapi's are the only living relative of the giraffe and among the rarest animals.
"Monkey Eating Leaf" 11x14 acrylic on Belgian Linen
"Antelopes Running Down A Rock" 11x14 graphite I took the photo for this while I was at the zoo watching the antelopes. When I saw these two come running, I thought that was the perfect moment to capture for a drawing/painting.
"Turkey On The Grass" 9x12 acrylic on Belgian Linen
"Duck On A Pond" 8x10 acrylic on Belgian Linen
"Hummingbird At The Feeder" 4x6 acrylic on clear primed linen My step-dad set up a hummingbird feeder on our balcony and for a while, hummingbirds would come and eat out of it. We would watch them while we at our meals out there.
"Blue Morpho" 8x10 acrylic on Belgian Linen
"Orange Koala" 9x12 acrylic on Belgian Linen photo by Lisa Clough used with permission
"Canary On A Porch" 8x10 watercolor Like "The Knitting Lesson", this piece came about as a result from a visit with my aunt. This time, I was in her house looking out at her porch and happened to see this canary land.
I snapped this duck on the San Antonio River during a road trip I took with my family in 2018.
My family and I went on a road trip to several U.S. states in 2018. Early one morning in one of the Bed and Breakfasts we stayed at, my parents excitedly told me that they had spotted a family of deer a few yards outside our door. I grabbed my phone and went to watch. That was when I was able to take the pic that became this painting.
