About Me
This page is a work in progress.
Artist Statement
My name is Sara and for me, art has always been about the joy of creating, of bringing something into existence that wasn't there before. I love knowing that I can bring a bit more beauty and joy into people's lives. Also, ever since I was a kid, I've loved setting challenges for myself and conquering them. Nothing lets me do all three of these things, creating, adding beauty, and conquering challenges, better than painting and drawing. I'm also fascinated by faces and figures, both human and animal, which is why I paint the subjects I do. The purpose of my art is to either capture a likeness, or capture a moment and keep it forever. I work mainly in acrylics and graphite, but I occasionally experiment with other mediums also.
How Did I Get Here?
This is the hardest question for me to answer because I feel like art has always been a part of me, but here goes. As a child, I was constantly drawing, Power Rangers, Leonardo DiCaprio, dinosaurs, Backstreet Boys, etc. Drawing was how I bided my time in school between lessons. My favorite toy when I was three was my etch-a-sketch. My mom brought home paper from her job for me to work on, since we couldn't afford real drawing paper and I used one of those number 2 pencils we used to use in school.
I started showing pictures of my work to anyone who would look at it and got great feedback.
I have to give credit to Bernie Horan and Dan Stringfield, the owners of Twiggs Coffeehouse for all the shows they've given me and Wendy Morris, the curator of Kensington Gallery for arranging for me to be the featured artist in April of 2016.
Of course, I wouldn't be here without my family and all the people who have supported me, believed in me, encouraged me, and all that good stuff.
